Brinks sent one under-qualified installer to put in our new system. First, he cut out a channel across our hallway wall to bury the cable in, and filled it with putty (which didn’t match anyway). Next, he put the keypad on the wrong wall. Next, he put the main control unit in our closet, up so high that there was no room to put any hangars on the rod as they hit the box on the back wall. Next he installed the outdoor siren on the OUTSIDE of our crawl space vent (so anyone could just come break it off) because he didn’t want to go in the crawl space under the house. After we called to complain multiple times about the damage to our wall, etc., another tech came out (another day of work missed for me) and moved the keypad, the siren, the main control unit, and tried to patch over the mess on our hall wall. It looked only slightly better. It has been three years now (we canceled our service the moment our 36 month commitment was up) and during that time we had so many false alarms that we were fined by our local police department, and the keypads malfunctioned, causing everything from loud beeping all night to false alarms on three occasions. We were told we would have to pay to replace the faulty keypads (though the equipment still belongs to Brinks, hhmmm…) both times and we finally just disconnected the whole thing several months before our contract was over. I wish I could warn people on a giant billboard about this company!!!

Wrote a letter to the EDT dept.asking to end my service as I was moving out of state and the house was under other contact. They mail me a letter to show proof that I moved, which I did. Called their customer service .switch me to collection I explain the problem, still with many calls and letters no help, also the contact I sign didn’t have any length of time on it. They sent me the copy with a 3 yrs contract, the same contract I have where someone wrote a 3 yr. in the block on the contract, my copy doesn’t have that. Which I mailed them, still no help. Now I am receiving a notice from a collection party. What can I do? Help ME

Horrible company!

I bought an alarm system from Brinks Home security at the beginning of 2007 and have had nothing but problems. The alarm goes off at least once a week for no apparent reason. After calling Brinks and being transferred to 8 different people, I finally was able to speak to someone who told me that I would have to wait a week to get a service appointment. I am paying an additional $5 for a service contract and the rep on the phone says it only covers limited things and this is not one of them. WHAT AM I PAYING $5 EXTRA FOR??? I asked to cancel the $5 service plan and she goes on to tell me that I cannot cancel it because it is in my contract terms. Now I am furious so I say fine just send someone out to my house. I called on a Tuesday and they sent someone out on Wed (8 days later). The tech did a full check up and said it was the motion sensor, he changed the motion sensor. He leaves, I set it and go to work, I am at work for about 2 hrs and I get a call from Brinks that my alarm is going off again. WTF!!! I just had someone at my house that “fixed” it. They make arrangements to send a tech back to my house to meet me after 5pm (I’m not missing any more work). A different tech comes and tells me, its not the motion, it is the glass break detector in my family room so, he changes that. About a week goes by, everything seems to be back to normal, than my wife comes home from the grocery store to find a cop car in front of the house and all of the neighbors out on their front lawns. THE ALARM WAS TRIPPING FOR 30 MINUTES AND NOBODY BOTHERED TO CALL MYSELF OR MY WIFE. Now I have had it with Brinks, I told them to power down the system and take it out of the house, they do so. They have been auto billing me every month $37.03 out of my checking account for an Alarm that I don’t even have anymore. I am in the process of getting legal help to get my money back. I warn all out there, stay away from Brinks, the sales rep made everything sound peachy keen when he came out. The installers ran wires all over my house (I will never go hardwired ever again). Their customer service IS THE WORST. I hope for your sake, you never have to go through this. Brinks has single handedly aged me 20 years due to this. GOOD LUCK!!!

When I bought my first house, I signed up with Brinks for a 3 year deal. After two years, I moved out to move in to a new house with my wife. She also had signed up for a 3 year deal with Brinks in her single house. We decided to ditch Brinks because we weren’t really getting anything for our money other than knowing the cops would come in about 30 minutes and find our dead bodies while they were still warm. Also, we decided we didn’t want to sign up for a landline phone and pay $30 for that as well as another $30 for Brinks. Our new house came with an ADT alarm pre-installed, and we talked to them and the alarm could be used without monitoring at NO cost.

The person who bought my fiancee’s old house (with the Brink’s alarm already installed) was a cop, and she said that having an unmonitored alarm is just about as good as having one monitored as far as burglars are concerned.

We broke our contract with Brinks, and we expected we’d have to pay something – fair enough. Here’s where Brinks rips off it customers – they make you pay 100% of the fees (including taxes) that you would have paid had you kept the service. If you don’t, they will put it on your credit. The way contract law works, if you breach the contract, you owe the other party the amount of profit they would have made had you not breached. The profit would be the fees you pay each month less whatever cost Brinks would incur to service your contract. Brinks is claiming that it costs them nothing, and that you owe 100% of the fees. In other words, the fees you pay them are 100% profit. That should give you some indication of what you get from Brinks – nothing.

I am still paying them $30 a month (and so is my wife for a total of $60), and will be doing so for quite some time. During this time I feel obligated to let people know that they will be ripped off if they sign up with Brinks. I have logged two “unsales” already to people who were planning to sign up until I warned them. If you are thinking about signing up with Brinks, I advise you to save yourself the money and look at another company who doesn’t rip off their customers or just go with an unmonitored alarm.

I complained that a door did not work in Feb 06. They said it would cost me between $50.00 and $100.00 to find the problem then $50.00 per hour to repair it. I asked to cancel instead, they said I could not cancel it according to the contract, in contrast to the salesmans advise.

In May 06 we sold the house and they said we could not cancel as we had a 3 year contract starting Feb 05.
The only way we could cancel was to file a request and include proof of our location of rent or lease of a different home location. We sold our home in Fla and Bought a Park Model home in a campground in NH. I sent them the lease contract for 1 year as paid in full. They did not accept this as it was in a campground and all I leased was the land and that I could move the Park Model Home, which I explained was 12 feet wide and 38 feet long with wheels removed and trailer hitch removed and sewer system was of a permanent system.

They said it was not a apartment or house rental or lease. I explaind several times that is not what it says in there letter and I want something in writing as to what they require as a lease or rental. They kept saying that is what they mean, I said that is a matter of opinion and I want it in writing. They said NO as it is not a permanent home.

I tried to explain we spend 6 months in New Hampshire and 6 months in South Carolina and at each location we have the same type of home. This campground does not even have phone lines available so we do not even have a Phone line at the campground for them to install a system if they wanted too.

What a Rip Off till next Feb of 07.

How to reconcile your account with Brinks AKA Payback!

The best way to reconcile with a company like Brinks is to hit them where it hurts. It may be a small insignificant amount but multiplied times thousands of scorned clients and it can have resounding effects to their bottom line. How you say.. Three little words.. Pay Per Click. Every time you search a browser for a term related to Brinks such as home security companies that offer these services pay to be in what is known as the sponsored listings because Brinks is a major competitor in this arena they will pay as much a 3 to 4 dollars per click. If one were to commit himself to search google.com, yahoo.com and msn.com type in a relevant keyword like “Home Security System” and click on the Brinks sponsored listing it would cost them somewhere between 5 – 10 dollars across all platforms. Now multiply that daily times the power of pissed off clients and chances are that Brinks will hear it where it hurts.

All it takes is 5 easy steps:

1. Type google.com in your browser
2 Type in a related search term i.e. “Home Security System”
3. Look for the Brinks sponsored listing usually in the top 3
4 Click on one or two pages within the site.
5. Stay on the site for at least one minute.

Next go to yahoo.com rinse and repeat.
Don’t forget about msn.com

The great Brinks home security rip off – A Protection Racket?

When we moved into our house there was a monitored security system installed by Brinks Home Security, we decided that since the system is already there, we would get it activated, this was a mistake – do not, I repeat, DO NOT ever enter into any business agreement with this company, they will rip you off.

This month, we decided that we no longer want this service and called to cancel. It turns out that we are locked into a three year contract with no option to cancel, there are also all sorts of unfair clauses written into the small print of the contract that nobody mentioned before we signed, including a clause that says that we are not allowed to take them to court (yeah right!). It seems to me that a lot of these clauses may be unconscionable and I am looking in to taking up the matter in small claims court. I will keep you up to date with the progress.

It seems that there is nobody to protect us from having our money stolen by the very people who are protecting us from it.

If anyone else has had similar problems with this company, I’d love to hear from you.
